Something To Live By:

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things." Philippians 4:8 NAS

DEVELOPING A MEANINGFUL MIND-SET

(Viable Thinking)

As of this day all that you hope to be lies before you. Perhaps you have heard it said, "This is the first day of the rest of my life." With this in mind, a person does well to develop a mind-set that enhances one's character, giving direction to his destiny.

René Decartes, a French philosopher of the seventeenth century, gave deep thought as to how he gained knowledge and what he had learned. He concluded simply, "I think, so I am." In other words, as a person thinks, so is he. It is a noble deed you do it for a few short minutes each day you take time to concentrate on worthy thoughts and then, through serious contemplation one's physical, mental, and spiritual being. We all make mistakes, but wholesome thinking can't be faulted.

ACTIVATING THE INTELLECT

(Spiritually Thinking)

Let us ponder the workings of the intellect. A definition of the word states, "The capacity for rational or intelligent thought, especially when highly developed." The intellect is the kind of thing that benefits one in the direct relationship to his hearty use of it: A case of "use it or lose it." Inuring one's intellect so as to cause it to become highly developed, calls for conviction such as found among wholehearted Christians who endeavor to be Christ-minded.

Paul, in Philippians 4:8, gives the framework of such noble thinking. Here it is advised that we draw mentally on that which is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good report, and things of excellence; a majestic guide to rational, intelligent musing to say the least, but not likely to be obtained by the natural man. Christians given sincerely to Christ-likeness can, however, rise to such heights.

Think about it.

One's destiny is shaped by a well-trained intellect. Jesus Christ gave credence to this instating the great and foremost commandment. (See Matthew 22:37-38
